St. James Celebrates the Feast Day of Jonathan Daniels
August 20, 2017
Jonathan Daniels' life is a model for living within one's faith. Jonathan Daniels' calling to travel to and serve in the Deep South allowed him to delve deeper in faith as he worked for justice and equality for all. His compassion, persistence, and courage challenges and serves as an important reminder for us as we seek to undo the the injustice in our world today. As we reflect on his life, this year we will gather to hear the voices of those that have been previously unheard. St. James invites you to take part in this annual commemoration at their Sunday services on August 20 at 9 AM.
Derek Scalia will be our preacher. Derek served on the Martin Luther King, Jr./Jonathan Daniels Committee for the City of Keene for 6 years. In 2015, he led a group of youth from St. James to Alabama to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jonathan Daniels martyrdom. He currently serves as the Associate Director of Student Involvement and Director of ALANA Diversity Programs at Franklin Pierce University and is currently a Deacon in Training through the Episcopal Church of New Hampshire.
