Therefore God also highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth
- Philipians 2:9-10
This Sunday is both New Year's Day and the Feast of the Holy Name. It is a great day to remember the holiness of God and of God's creation. That includes you and me and everyone. It's a good day to make a resolution for 2017 to name everyone we meet as one of God's beloved children, and to treat them accordingly.
I had a whole essay written here about the ways we name God, one another and ourselves, but I just deleted it when I watched one of my favorite Jason Gray videos again, and remembered that he tells it better than I did with his beautiful song, "Beloved." I hope you listen and enjoy!
Don't miss our Christmas Lessons and Carols service this Sunday at 10. (No service at 8 this Sunday)
Happy New Year everyone, and I'll see you in 2017!
