Visitor Worship Guide
Welcome! We are pleased that you are considering worshiping at St. James. If you have any questions during either the Sunday or Wednesday services, please feel free to ask a nearby member for help. Many of us were new to the Episcopal Church at some point. The leaders guide the congregation through the service, and it is easy to follow the bulletin that is passed out by the ushers as you come into the church. For more information click here to download the worship guide.
In the Episcopal Church, our worship (often called liturgy) is a blending of ancient and contemporary practices. The basic shape of our Sunday service dates back to the middle of the first century. It is divided into two main parts: The Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Table. All are welcome to take communion.
When you stand or kneel at the communion rail, please extend your hands to receive the communion wafer. If you are gluten intolerant, please let the priest know and she will give you a gluten free one. You have a choice of receiving the wine by guiding the chalice toward your lips or dipping the wafer into the intinction cup. If you wish to receive only the wafer or prefer only a blessing, cross your arms across your chest.
After the 10 am Sunday Service, you are welcome to enjoy food and fellowship in the Common Room behind the Sanctuary.
