Visitor Worship Guide

Welcome! We are pleased that you are considering worshiping at St. James. If you have any questions during either the Sunday or Wednesday services, please feel free to ask a nearby member for help.  Many of us were new to the Episcopal Church at some point. The leaders guide the congregation through the service, and it is easy to follow the bulletin that is passed out by the ushers as you come into the church.  For more information click here to download the worship guide.

Open Communion

In the Episcopal Church, our worship (often called liturgy) is a blending of ancient and contemporary practices. The basic shape of our Sunday service dates back to the middle of the first century. It is divided into two main parts: The Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Table. All are welcome to take communion.

When you stand or kneel at the communion rail, please extend your hands to receive the communion wafer. If you are gluten intolerant, please let the priest know and she will give you a gluten free one. You have a choice of receiving the wine by guiding the chalice toward your lips or dipping the wafer into the intinction cup. If you wish to receive only the wafer or prefer only a blessing, cross your arms across your chest.

After the 10 am Sunday Service, you are welcome to enjoy food and fellowship in the Common Room behind the Sanctuary.

How To Find Us

St. James Episcopal Church is in downtown Keene. Drive north on Main Street toward the white steeple of the UCC church at the head of the square. Drive around the rotary and exit onto West Street which is the third street on your right. St. James is in the second block on your left. Park in the upper parking lot to the left of the church or in the lower parking lot behind the church. Enter through either of the red doors. There is a handicapped entrance on West Street just beyond the main entrance, or you may enter through the back door on Lamson Street and take the elevator up to the Common Room leading to the Sanctuary.
